The Mediating Effect of Perceived Stress on Transformational and Passive-Avoidant, Leadership-Commitment Linkages

The current study tests an integrative model that considers the plausible effects of transformational and passive-avoidant leadership styles on employees’ affective, normative, continuance commitment to organization. While are treated as predictors commitment, perceived stress is a mediating factor in understanding underlying mechanism commitment. Data were collected from 232 white blue-collar employees working at regional divisions privatized organization, monitoring Turkey’s electricity distribution services. hypothesized mediation was tested using structural equation modeling. Using bootstrapping method, indirect both affective normative via found be significant. However, contrary expectations, insignificant for relations between overall results suggest tend feel less tension thus ultimately become more affectively normatively committed organizations when supervisors exhibit behaviors. Passive-avoidant behaviors, other hand, act distal stress. By enacting passively showing ignorance subordinates' needs, passive leaders seem intensify workplace stressors followers.
